Position - The Integrated Plant Protection Center (IPPC) invites applications for a full-time Faculty Research Assistant position. This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term position with renewal at the discretion of the IPPC Director or supervisors.
Salary and Benefits - Starting annual full-time salary rate of $28,000 - $35,000, depending on education and experience, plus a generous benefits package.
Integrated Plant Protection Center - The Integrated Plant Protection Center (IPPC) is dedicated to developing, fostering, and supporting effective, economically sustainable pest management with lower costs to human health and the environment. The IPPC conducts research and outreach in state, national and international settings. Two important programs within the IPPC are the Pest Management Strategic Plans (PMSP) and the Pesticide Safety Education (PSEP) Programs. These programs are responsible for the development of PMSPs for PNW food commodities, and organizing PSEP educational events.
Responsibilities and Duties - Provide assistance to the leaders of the PMSP and PSEP Programs: Under the direction of the PMSP Program Leader, assist in the preparation of the draft document for PMSPs. This includes collecting pest and pest management information from various sources; organizing the information within a given frame-work (crop stages); creating tables with appropriate pest and pest management information; and editing the document for accuracy and clarity. Under the direction of the PSEP Program Leader, assist in organizing and implementing numerous PSEP educational events in consultation with the Pesticides Division of the Oregon Dept. of Agriculture, county-based extension faculty, and industry representatives. This involves organizing advisory committees, recruiting speakers, and coordinating events and meetings.
Qualifications - Position requires a B.S. degree and experience or an M.S. degree in agriculture, agricultural education, toxicology, horticulture, plant pathology, weed science, integrated past management, or related field. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively within a team; organize disparate information; maintain schedules and meet deadlines.
Preferred qualifications (desirable, but not essential) include experience in educational or outreach programs, knowledge of pesticide application, fluency in Spanish, knowledge of pest management strategies, technical writing, and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
